IJELS follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Retraction Guidelines for deciding when and how a published article is retracted, corrected, or flagged with an expression of concern.

Grounds for Retraction

An article may be retracted where there is clear evidence of: unreliable findings (honest error or misconduct); duplicate/redundant publication; plagiarism or unauthorized authorship/consent; unethical research; undisclosed competing interests that affected the work's interpretation; or copyright/legal infringement.

Process

1. Concern is submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief with evidence.
2. Editorial Board conducts a preliminary review.
3. Corresponding author(s) are notified and given a fair opportunity to respond.
4. Where misconduct is suspected, the matter may be referred to the author's institution.
5. Editor-in-Chief and Board decide: retract, correct, issue expression of concern, or take no action.
6. Outcome is published without undue delay.

Retraction Notice

A published retraction notice is linked bidirectionally to the article, states who is retracting it and why, and is freely accessible. The original article remains online, watermarked "RETRACTED" on every page (including the PDF), it is never deleted. Indexing databases and Crossref are notified of the status change.

Appeals — Authors may appeal a retraction decision in writing to the Editor-in-Chief; appeals are reviewed by the Editorial Board, which may seek independent advice.
